Au Pair Employment Opportunities in Canada

Au Pair applicants are between the ages of 18-30 years old and must meet qualifications to work in Canada as an Au Pair. Working as an Au Pair gives you an opportunity to gain work experience, an opportunity to live with a family and learn English, travel and sight see in Ontario & Canada. Most positions are six to twelve months. It is a great cultural experience for the Au Pair and the Canadian family.

20151001_164715-(3)The applicants must have a minimum of one year experience working with children, education equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma, ability to prepare creative activities with the children, a First Aid & CPR Certificate ( or must obtain one), have good English or French to communicate with the family, provide work and personal references, a police clearance and valid passport. Please make sure you include any special courses or volunteer work.

An Au Pair program is not currently available for Canada however those interested are able to work as an Au Pair after applying for a Holiday Work Permit for Canada. There is a limited number of Holiday Work Visas issued each year and available to select countries for up to twelve months. We recommend that you research availability and apply for the Holiday Work Visa for Canada prior to applying. You will be responsible for your own airfare and health insurance for you full stay in Canada.

Australia, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy*, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Ukraine and Great Britain.

The Au Pair’s primary responsibility is for the children. You will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children and assist with family meals and regular light household duties to keep the home tidy and organized. The “Host” family must provide room and board, a private bedroom is mandatory (TV & Internet optional), pocket money for the hours worked each week. Use of vehicle is optional and only if the Au Pair holds an International drivers licence.

We will assist the family and the Au Pair with an employment offer and contract. We will provide you with information on the “Host” family, the home, children, the community and city they live in plus duties and responsibilities. We will provide a letter from the family and a photo. After you accept the position we encourage the Au Pair and the family to communicate by email or Skype therefore you are more familiar with each other upon arrival in Canada.

Employment Hours: 25- 44 hours per week

Wage: Provincial Minimum Wage

Time Off: Two days off per week (at least one weekend day per week and one full weekend per month)

Statutory Holidays: 9 days (Ontario)

Air Fare: The Au Pair is responsible for flight to Canada and must have a return ticket.

Health Insurance: The Employee is responsible for travelling with health Insurance for one year

Language Courses: While in Canada, the Au Pair can participate in an English or French course. The Host Family can assist the Au Pair in finding a suitable independent language course nearby.
